If you are thinking of taking a degree or diploma from abroad, then be careful. The University Grants Commission, i.e., UGC, has once again issued an alert to students and colleges. UGC has said that any such foreign course or degree will not be recognized in India, which goes against the rules. This means that if you take such a degree, it will remain just a piece of paper and will have no value in India.
UGC has made many strict rules in the years 2022 and 2023, under which only those courses, degrees, or diplomas from foreign universities will be considered valid that are working in India under the special permission and guidelines of UGC. If any Indian college or edutech company, i.e., those providing online courses, has run a course in collaboration with a foreign institute without approval, then its degree will not work in India.
UGC also keeps an eye on edutech companies
UGC also said that many edutech companies and colleges are selling foreign degrees or diplomas by giving big advertisements on social media, TV, and newspapers. Students and their parents fall into the trap and later regret it. UGC has said that strict action will be taken in such a case, whether it is a college or an edutech company.
You will have to do the investigation yourself.
UGC has appealed to the students to check the validity of any foreign course or degree before joining it. You can get this information from the UGC website or office about which course or institution is valid. UGC has written in the alert that if anyone takes admission in such a course without investigation, then they themselves will be responsible for it.
UGC had also given warning earlier
UGC had also issued a similar advisory in December 2023, in which concern was raised about unauthorized partnership with foreign institutions and recognition of the course. Despite this, many institutes and edutech companies are still running such fake courses.
