And on Thursday, August 21, it has also got approval from the upper house, i.e., the Rajya Sabha. Now, after the signature of President Draupadi Murmu, it will take the form of law.
Now, in such a situation, the question arises as to what will happen to the money you have deposited on the gaming platform? Will your money be lost, or will you get it? Let us know the answers to all the questions one by one.
What will happen to your money?
The Online Gaming Bill 2025 has been passed by the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha. To make it a law, the President's approval is necessary. If you have not yet withdrawn your money from waiting platforms like Dream11 or My11 Circle, then you still have a chance to withdraw money. If this bill takes the form of law, then there may be a problem in withdrawing money.
The future of your money deposited in online gaming apps like Dream11 and My11Circle is linked to changing rules and possible policy changes. RBI also does not take direct action on these platforms.
In such a situation, withdraw your money before this bill comes into force. Who knows, after the implementation of the bill, these apps may stop working. In such a situation, you should immediately withdraw your money from such apps. Otherwise, your money may also sink.
How big is the online gaming market
The country's online gaming market is currently worth $3.7 billion, and it is estimated that it will double to $9.1 billion in 2029. However, 86 percent of today's revenue comes from games with real money format.
To stop betting, the government has come up with the 'Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill, 2025'. That is, action has started on gaming platforms. Whether they are skill-based or chance-based.
Violation can lead to jail (up to 3 years) and heavy fines (up to ₹ 1 crore), and promoters, including influencers, may also face penalties.
This law also bans advertisements of such games and prohibits banks or financial institutions from facilitating related transactions.
