IPL 2025: Shreyas Iyer out for duck, fans react sharply

Send Push

The highly anticipated IPL 2025 match between Punjab Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders at Chandigarh’s Maharaja Yadavindra Singh Stadium took an early turn when PBKS skipper Shreyas Iyer was sent back to the pavilion without scoring. As soon as Harshit Rana claimed his wicket, fans wasted no time lighting up social media with memes, jokes, and some good old trolling.

A golden duck and a silent walk back

Shreyas Iyer’s decision to bat first after winning the toss quickly backfired. PBKS lost both Priyansh Arya and Iyer in quick succession, leaving the team shaken early in the innings. Harshit Rana, showing control and aggression, dismissed Arya first, and then soon after, bagged the prized wicket of the captain himself. Iyer’s attempt to settle in was cut short, and all he could do was watch the ball sail into a fielder’s hands. It was a breakthrough moment for KKR, who were looking to seize control after a quick start from PBKS.

Fans show no mercy online

The dismissal triggered a wave of reactions online, with fans unleashing their sarcasm and wit. One fan joked, “Harshit cooked Idli Shreyas Iyer,” poking fun at how easily Iyer was dismissed.

Another posted, “Shreyas Iyer’s heart still beats for KKR,” suggesting that he subconsciously favored his former team.

A third user took it a notch higher, saying, “Nitish Rana & Shreyas Iyer got the taste of their medicine,”

While a fourth taunted, “Aur recognition chaiye to bata BKL Shreyas Iyer…”

These reactions weren’t just about Iyer’s performance—they were loaded with old loyalties, rivalries, and that typical IPL banter fans live for.

Early breakthrough, but game on

Before Iyer’s dismissal, PBKS openers Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh were putting pressure on KKR’s bowlers, especially targeting Vaibhav Arora. The pitch offered some early assistance with a hint of green, but once the shine fades, batting becomes much easier here. Despite a promising start, the quick wickets of Arya and Iyer brought balance back to the game. KKR, who came in expecting a tough day on a batting-friendly track, found some much-needed momentum thanks to Rana’s sharp bowling.

Shreyas Iyer walking back for zero was not just a loss for PBKS — it gave KKR the psychological edge. More than that, it gave IPL fans their daily dose of drama. With social media buzzing, one thing’s clear: in this tournament, even a single delivery can change the mood of the match — and of the internet.
