Dhoni and Dube finish it off in style! CSK finally gets a win

Send Push

After losing 5 matches in a row — some even at their own home ground, Chepauk — Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have finally managed to secure a win! They defeated Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by 5 wickets at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, in a crowd filled with yellow jerseys.

MS Dhoni (26 off 11) came to the crease after the fall of 5 wickets and ensured he stayed till the end. Along with Shivam Dube (43 off 37), he guided their side to a much-needed victory. The 'Thala' - now captain of CSK in the absence of injured Ruturaj Gaikwad - stayed at the non-strikers end as Dube smashed a boundary when 4 runs were needed to win the clash.

CSK finally gets a victory

The crowd cheered as soon as Dhoni came out to bat. His quick hits along with Dube finding his own form towards the end, helped them cross the line. This victory could be just the boost they needed as fans could believe there's hope for a turnaround.

After facing all the criticism about starting slow in the Powerplay, this time around, they got ahead of the required rate early courtesy of IPL debutant Shaik Rasheed (27 off 19) and Rachin Ravindra (27 off 22). However, things took a turn as the spin trio of Digvesh Singh Rathi, Ravi Bishnoi, and Aiden Markram triggered a slowdown in the middle overs.

Rahul Tripathi (9 off 10), Ravindra Jadeja (7 off 11) and Vijay Shankar (9 off 8) fell cheaply which left all the heavy lifting to be done by Dube and Dhoni, who did not disappoint.

Fans react

Soon as the game came to an end, many fans took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to express their joy of seeing their favourite team finally get a win after a series of disappointing games.

One said, "Finally a win for CSK!"

Another commented, "Finally... a win for CSK — though they’re still stuck at 10th!"

One wrote, "Finally! After 5 straight losses, CSK pulls off a win today! So happy for the team!"

Another shared, "It took 3 weeks to end a 5-match losing streak. Finally, CSK fans have something to roar and cheer about. It was THALA magic — Dhoni stepped in at a critical moment and guided his team to victory."

One added, "A 43-year-old part-time cricketer, full-time farmer, still finishing matches! The greatest finisher of the game — striking at 236.36 today. Well said!"

About LSG's innings

Earlier, asked to bat first, LSG managed 57 runs off the last 5 overs — a crucial phase in the innings. CSK did well to dismiss Aiden Markram (6 off 6) and Nicholas Pooran (8 off 9) cheaply, but Mitchell Marsh (30 off 25) continued from where he left off, building a 50-run third-wicket partnership with skipper Rishabh Pant (63 off 49).

Pant today finally found his rhythm, scoring a vital half-century to help his side post a competitive total of 166/7. Though Pant struggled against Noor Ahmad, he capitalized on the pace on offer and hit some big shots towards the end. Ayush Badoni (22 off 17) showed promise but couldn't build on the start he got, despite getting a couple of reprieves.

For CSK, the bowlers did a pretty decent job, restricting LSG below 180-run mark - something they have not managed to achieve. Ravindra Jadeja and Matheesha Pathirana picked two each while Khaleel Ahmed and Anshul Kamboj had one each to their name.
