Send Push

Dominating all the articles around the world is pop star Katy Perry! She is all set to head to the edge of space this Monday with an all-female crew. She'll be soaring into the cosmos aboard one of billionaire Jeff Bezos' Blue Origin rockets. She will be alongside five other women, including Bezos' fiancée Lauren Sanchez.

The historic flight is scheduled to lift off from western Texas at 8:30 AM (1330 GMT / 7:00 PM IST), marking a new milestone in space tourism — especially for female-led space missions.

A throwback to her K-pop connection

As the singer embarks on this incredible journey, it's the perfect moment to look back at her special connection with the world of K-pop — a genre that's now taking over the global music scene. Over the years, Katy Perry has expressed genuine admiration for K-pop's rapid rise, so let's explore how she's linked to the Korean pop world.

Admiration for BTS

In particular, Perry has spoken fondly about BTS. In a 2020 interview with Korean Now, she remarked, "Well, the music is so catchy. It's such an earworm, so I understand why people want to listen to it over and over again. I think it's amazing to see a different culture come in and fit right in. I like that we're all meshing together and becoming a bit of a one world."

She added, "I think it's an interesting time for music, and I like that K-pop is a part of it."

A special moment with BTS' J-Hope

Beyond potential collaborations, Perry has shared memorable moments with K-pop stars. One notable instance was at the Gala des Pièces Jaunes charity event, where she met BTS' J-Hope on stage. The meeting delighted fans, symbolizing the growing camaraderie between Western pop icons and K-pop artists.

Interest in collaborations: BLACKPINK

Perry had also expressed interest in collaborating with the 4-member girl group BLACKPINK. In an interview with Thai publication The Standard, she was asked about the possibility of working with them. Perry explained that her collaborations aren't driven by trends or fame, but by meaningful connections and good music.

She also shared how many collaborate with BLACKPINK for ratings, but if were to do it, it would only be if the song carried a message. She added that she needed to feel personally connected to it and if BLACKPINK presented a fun, meaningful song, she'd be open to it.

Interestingly, she had met Rosé too at the  Gala des Pièces Jaunes charity event and the two clicked pictures together.

A fusion of genres: SEVENTEEN

Apple once featured a special Remix Sessions project for GarageBand, bringing together Katy Perry and K-pop group SEVENTEEN. This fun project mixed Katy Perry's pop style with SEVENTEEN's K-pop vibe, giving fans a fresh new sound and a chance to enjoy both worlds in one track.
