A Tesla Cybertruck has been spotted at the outskirts of Mumbai after being spotted atop a flatbed truck. However, a closer look at the vehicle's registration reveals that it might not be Tesla’s much-anticipated official entry, but rather a privately imported unit, likely from Dubai. In fact, with its Dubai plates and transport via flatbed, it's believed to be a temporary import, possibly brought in for private use.
This comes hot on the heels of the Model Y being seen on Indian roads last week, albeit under heavy camouflage. But unlike the Model Y, the Cybertruck was out in full view. Tesla is steadily building momentum in India, with homologation tests already underway for the Model Y and Model 3.
Tesla Cyberstruck: All you need to know
Globally, the Tesla Cybertruck made its much-awaited debut in December 2023. The pickup offers three powertrain configurations: single, dual, and tri-motor setups.
The tri-motor version is the most potent of the lot, sprinting from 0 to 100 kmph in under three seconds while offering a claimed range of over 805 km. It also boasts a maximum towing capacity of up to 14,000 pounds (approximately 6,350 kg). Meanwhile, the dual-motor AWD variant delivers 563 km of range on a single charge.
Tesla's long-awaited debut in the Indian EV market might be closer than ever. As mentioned above, a heavily camouflaged test mule of the upcoming 2025 Tesla Model Y was recently spotted on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway, hinting strongly that Elon Musk’s electric car brand is gearing up to hit Indian roads soon.
