Bengaluru weather update: Thunderstorms, cool breezes to transform April weather

Send Push
In a recent update, Bengaluru has been experiencing rainfall over the past three days now. It has brought much-needed happy change in weather for residents burning under the summer sun. The reason behind this rain is a cyclonic circulation over the Bay of Bengal near the Tamil Nadu coast. This has led to a major dip in temperatures and changed the city’s weather into a cooler, breezier version of itself.

As per the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the weather system will continue to affect Bengaluru and several parts of Karnataka through April 13. The forecasts predict moderate to heavy rain, thunderstorms, and lightning in isolated areas.

Widespread showers

There were 27 localities across Bengaluru that recorded rainfall on Friday. Places like Mallasandra, Peenya Industrial Area, and Bellandur were more affected by the showers that also caused minor waterlogging in low-lying neighborhoods. However it was a much-needed downpour as it brought respite to many who had been enduring warm conditions. The IMD has also confirmed that the rainfall is a result of a cyclonic circulation over the Bay of Bengal.

Cooler temperatures

Bengaluru has seen a major dip in temperature as daytime highs have recorded around 33°C, while nighttime lows have dipped to 21°C, which is a significant and pleasant deviation from the usual hot April climate.

Locals have welcomed the change, with many taking to social media to share images of rain-soaked streets, and lush greenery revived by the showers.

Weather advisory
The IMD has issued a weather bulletin warning of continued thunderstorms and isolated heavy rainfall across Bengaluru and other regions of Karnataka. The public is advised to exercise caution, especially during thunderstorm activity.
