April 22, 2025 will always be remembered as the dark day in the history of Kashmir and India. In a horrifying act, tourists in Pahalgam were attracted by a bunch of terrorists. The inhuman act of violence has shocked the nation, where 26 tourists were killed. The act took place in the beautiful Baisaran Valley near Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir.
It was for the first time in over three decades that the entire valley came to a standstill to raise voice against terrorism. Citizens from every corner of society came out on the streets to condemn the violence. From Srinagar to Anantnag, and Shopian to Baramulla, the entire Kashmir echoed with calls for peace and accountability. Throughout the day, protest marches, candlelight gatherings, and silent demonstrations painted a powerful picture of collective grief.
In response to the heart-wrenching terrorist attack, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has asked his officials to initiate a special airlift operation to evacuate over 40 Kannadiga tourists stranded in Kashmir. The state government has assured the safe return of all affected individuals and advised their families to remain calm. A dedicated helpline has been established to assist those in distress.
In a recent update, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has cut down his state visit to Saudi Arabia and returned to New Delhi early on Wednesday, April 23, 2025. Upon arrival in Delhi, the Prime Minister convened an emergency meeting with National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar to assess the situation. The government has vowed swift justice for those responsible and is providing all necessary assistance to the victims and their families.
To condemn this, the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) to show a strong show of unity against terrorism, has called for a Kashmir Bandh on April 23 (Wednesday). The JKNC has appealed to the people to make it a complete success. The party has also stressed that the bandh is not just a protest, but an expression of outrage against such violence.
On the other hand, in response to the terrorist attack, Indian airlines have increased the number of flights to facilitate passenger movement and pull them out of Kashmir as soon as possible. On Wednesday, Air India and IndiGo will operate four more flights from Srinagar to Delhi and Mumbai to take tourists out of Kashmir.
Air India took to X (formerly Twitter) and wrote, "In view of the prevailing situation, Air India will operate two additional flights from Srinagar to Delhi and Mumbai on April 23". Similarly, an IndiGo official also announced that they will also operate two extra flights on the same routes to accommodate increased demand and ensure passenger safety.
