Sheopur (Madhya Pradesh): A man has been sentenced to life imprisonment for repeatedly raping his 13-year-old stepdaughter in Sheopur district.
The verdict was delivered by Third Additional Sessions Judge Babita Hora Sharma, who also imposed a fine of Rs 60,000 on the convict.
The disheartening incident happened back in 2023 in Baroda police station area. The victim used to stay with her mother. The girl's biological father passed away in her childhood, her mother remarried.
The stepfather raped the minor repeatedly for over 10 months. Accused threatened to kill the child if she confided with anyone about this. The teenager chose to stay silent out of fear.
The victim was taken to the hospital after complaining of stomach pain. The doctor found in the ultrasound that the minor was 15 weeks pregnant. When the mother asked, the minor told that her stepfather had been doing bad things with her for the last 10 months.
Victim's mother filed a FIR, accused held
The crime came to light when the teenager complained of stomach ache and was rushed to hospital. The doctors conducted ultrasound that revealed the girl was 15 weeks pregnant. On being questioned by her mother, the girl disclosed about the months-long sexual abuse.
Victim's mother immediately lodged a FIR at the police station and the accused was arrested.
Compensation of 3 lakhs to be provided to the survivor
The prosecution was led by DPO RK Baraiya, Special Public Prosecutor Richa Sharma, and ADPO Hariom Sharma under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
The court also directed that Rs 3 lakh should be provided to the survivor as compensation for her rehabilitation.
