Crystal Palace are on the brink of history after a stunning 3-0 victory over Aston Villa sent them into the FA Cup final, powered by brilliant goals from Eberechi Eze and Ismaila Sarr. Eze opened the scoring with a spectacular strike from the edge of the box in the 31st minute.
Sarr after winning the ball on the right wing and then shifted it inside and into the path of Eze. Eze has endured an often-difficult season, but his sublime first-time finished screamed past Emiliano Martinez and under the crossbar.
Sarr doubled the lead with a crisp low drive from distance. The Senegalese winger then put the result beyond doubt with a second goal just before full-time, capping a dominant display by the South London side.
With this victory at Wembley, Palace have reached only their third FA Cup final and now stand just one win away from lifting a major trophy for the first time in their 119-year history.
Crystal Palace eye historic trophy
Oliver Glasner’s side simply outplayed a lethargic Aston Villa, who never found their rhythm despite having recently knocked out Paris Saint-Germain from the Champions League.
Villa were hoping to defeat Crystal Palace and end a trophy drought dating back to 1996. They were second-best throughout and had no answer to Palace’s relentless pressing and counter-attacking play.
This victory will be especially sweet for Palace, who suffered heartbreak in the 1990 and 2016 FA Cup finals, both against Manchester United. Now, with momentum on their side, the Eagles will return to Wembley on May 17 to face either Manchester City or Nottingham Forest, with dreams of finally claiming the silverware that has long eluded them.
