Indore (Madhya Pradesh): A planned liver transplant surgery in city was abruptly cancelled on Monday after a technical glitch forced the suspension of city’s 64th green corridor operation.
The life-saving procedure was intended to transport a donor liver from Bhopal to Indore, but unforeseen complications halted the mission just hours before the scheduled transfer.
The organ was to be harvested from an elderly man declared brain dead at Siddhanta Super Speciality Hospital in Bhopal on Sunday. Following approval from the State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation (SOTTO), swift arrangements were made to transport the liver to Jupiter Special Hospital in Indore, where a critically ill patient awaited the transplant.
With full coordination between medical teams and traffic police, a green corridor—an emergency route facilitating uninterrupted organ transport—was planned between the two cities.
A specialised transplant team from Indore had reached Bhopal and was on standby for the retrieval and transfer.
However, the process was called off at the last moment due to unspecified technical complications. While officials did not disclose exact details, they confirmed that conditions necessary for the transplant were not met, forcing cancellation of both surgery and the green corridor.
This is a rare disruption in Indore’s otherwise successful track record of organ transport. The city has previously completed 63 green corridors, contributing significantly to timely transplants and saving lives.
Health officials expressed regret over the missed opportunity but stressed the importance of maintaining safety and protocol standards in such critical procedures. Further updates are awaited regarding the reallocation of the liver and the possibility of rescheduling the transplant or redirecting it to another recipient.
