Indore (Madhya Pradesh): Three criminals waylaid an elderly utensil trader and robbed him of Rs 9.5 lakh and his scooter on one of the busiest roads under Aerodrome police station on Saturday.
The trader was on his way home from his shop when the trio intercepted and thrashed him before escaping with his cash and scooter. Police were clueless about the robbers till the filing of the report.
The incident took place near Police Radio Training School, close to Ramchandra Nagar Square, at around 7.30 pm. Bablulal Goyal, 75, a resident of Dwarkadhish Colony, had collected cash from two traders, said his nephew Anand.
He said Goyal dropped him (Anand) at his maternal grandmother’s place in the area and was on his way home when three youths on a scooter stopped him after coming in front of his scooter. They thrashed him and punched his face. Later, they fled with his scooter and cash. Goyal had kept the cash collected from the traders in the scooter’s dickey.
Goyal cried for help and some people gathered on the spot who later informed the police. The road where the incident happened is the busiest road. The police were examining the CCTV camera footage but had no clue about the robbers till the filing of the report.
DCP (zone-1) Vinod Kumar Meena informed the Free Press that Goyal had kept the cash in the scooter’s dickey which was robbed by three men. Some teams had been constituted to search for the accused, he said, adding that CCTV camera footage of the area was being examined.
The police, who claimed the robbers would be arrested soon, believed that the criminals were aware that the trader was carrying cash and were following him from his shop.
