Sagar (Madhya Pradesh): The officials of the municipal corporation have seized motors and pipes that some people were using to draw water from Lakha Banjara Lake in Sagar district.
Deputy Commissioner SS Baghel of the civic body and some officers were inspecting the lake whose water level has begun to decline due to severe heat. The officials inspected the lake following instructions from the commissioner, Rajkumar Khatri.
The purpose was to deepen and clean up the lake and water bodies in the district under the Jal Ganga Samvardhan Abhiyan. Khatri appealed to the residents to keep the water of the lake clean. He said the lake became the centre of attraction after Smart City Limited cleaned it up. The events, like Ganga Aarati, have been organised to connect the residents with the lake. The residents of Sagar stroll around the lake in the morning and in the evening.
The number of boats and motorboats has also increased, which has helped locals increase their income. It is necessary to maintain the water level of the lake, Khatri said. The lake will have enough water till the arrival of the monsoon, he said.
But drawing water illegally from the lake will deplete its level, he said. He urged the residents to keep away from using water from the lake. The saplings planted around the lake are watered with the help of drip irrigation and sprinklers.
