Nalasopara Murder: Accused Chaman Strangled Husband Vijay Chauhan In Sleep After He Caught Her With Lover, Say Police

Nalasopara: In a shocking twist to the Nalasopara murder case, police have confirmed that the motive behind Vijay Chauhan’s killing was rooted in rage and fear after he allegedly caught his wife in an intimate situation with her lover on the night of July 5.

What Exactly Happened?

According to Nalasopara Police, the accused, Gudiya Devi alias Chaman (28), was in a long-term extramarital relationship with 23-year-old Monu Vishwakarma. That fateful night, Vijay, 34, returned home unannounced and found the two together.

An intense argument followed, during which Vijay allegedly assaulted Chaman. Later, while he was asleep, she allegedly strangled him to death, driven by a mix of fury, fear of consequences and desire to protect her secret relationship.

According to a Hindustan Times report quoting the police, Chaman didn’t act alone. Vishwakarma helped her in the immediate cover-up. The two laid Vijay’s body back on the bed and covered it with a sheet to avoid drawing attention, especially from Chaman’s five-year-old child, who was in the house. The next day, they allegedly hired labourers under the pretext of installing a water tank and got a six-foot-long, four-foot-deep pit dug inside the house. They then buried the body in the pit and sealed the area.

As Vijay’s family grew suspicious due to his sudden disappearance, Chaman reportedly switched off her phone and fled Nalasopara. However, her attempt to stay off the radar failed when she accidentally turned her phone on last week. Police traced her location to the Hadapsar area in Pune. After scanning more than 3,000 homes in the MHADA colony, they found her at a medical shop and detained her.

She had reportedly been living there after renting a room with the help of a local auto-rickshaw driver. Vishwakarma was also later arrested. Both accused were produced before the Vasai court on Wednesday and remanded to police custody till July 30.
