A tragic incident unfolded in Hingona village, Morena, Madhya Pradesh, during a procession held to mark Ambedkar Jayanti. What began as a dispute over the playing of a DJ during the procession soon escalated into violence, resulting in the death of a Dalit youth and injuries to another. The situation has left the community outraged, with the deceased's body being prevented from being taken for post-mortem as tensions continue to rise in the area.
The altercation began late on Monday night around 11 p.m., when a procession was being taken out by the Dalit community to celebrate Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Jayanti. During the procession, a DJ was playing music, which reportedly caused disagreement with members of the Gurjar community. Allegedly, the Gurjar community asked the procession to stop and did not want it to continue with the DJ playing. This led to an argument, which quickly escalated into physical violence.
It is claimed that the Gurjar community initiated the violence by opening fire, resulting in the tragic death of a young Dalit man, identified as Sanjay Pippal, from bullet injuries. Another individual, Ronu, was also injured in the shooting and has been sent to Gwalior for further medical treatment.
In the wake of the incident, tensions have run high. The Dalit community, understandably angry over the loss, has not allowed the deceased's body to be removed from the village for post-mortem, causing further unrest. As of several hours after the incident, the body remains at the scene, while the police struggle to resolve the situation. A significant police presence has been deployed in the village to control the situation and prevent further escalation. A case has been registered, and investigations are ongoing.
This incident has highlighted the volatile nature of caste-related tensions in some regions, with communal clashes threatening to erupt over seemingly small issues, such as a public celebration or the playing of music.
