Netflix has added a “powerful” love story which signals the start of a plethora of faith-based films making its way to the streamer.
Ruth and Boaz, which has been released today, Friday, September 26, on Netflix, is a contemporary version of the biblical story of the same name.
Set in Tennessee, the modern day adaptation revolves around a young woman who leaves the Atlanta music scene behind to care for an elderly widowed woman.

Tudum teases that in “the process, [she] finds the love of her life and gains the mother she never had”.
Starry as Boaz is none other than actor Tyler Lepley who is best known for playing Pynk’s tough yet spiritual bouncer Diamond in Starz drama P-Valley.
He has also featured in Prime Video’s Harlem, BMF and The Haves and the Have Nots.
Lepley is joined by actress Serayah as Ruth, with fans recognising her from the drama Empire as Tiana Brown.
Ruth and Boaz is brought to life by DeVon Franklin and Tyler Perry who have embarked on a creative partnership with Netflix where they will produce faith-based films under a “multi-year and multi-picture first-look deal”.
Franklin told Tudum: “Tyler and I have been great friends for over 15 years so when he called me to team up on movies that can uplift the human spirit, I jumped at the chance and we couldn’t have a better partner than Netflix to help us inspire the world.
“Ruth & Boaz has been a true labor of love, and I'm grateful to finally share this first look with the world.
“This classic story has held such deep meaning for me and so many others for generations.
“I'm beyond excited for audiences to see the trailer and to experience this film on Netflix when it's released!”
Ruth and Boaz will also be narrated by 77-year-old actress Phylicia Rashad who fans will remember for starring in The Cosby Show, the Creed film franchise, The Chi and, most recently, The Gilded Age as Elizabeth Kirkland.
Ruth and Boaz is available to watch on Netflix.
