Sheridan Smith couldn’t contain her emotions as the real-life mum she is set to play in a new ITV drama made an emotional behind-the-scenes confession.
The heart-wrenching true story of a mother's love, bravery and resolve to alter the double jeopardy law is being portrayed in a new ITV drama series titled I Fought The Law.
The BAFTA-winning stars as campaigner Ann Ming, whose daughter Julie was brutally killed in 1989. The four-part series will follow Ann on her quest to find answers.

Ahead of the show, Sheridan and Ann appeared on Thursday’s (August 21) episode of This Morning and in a heart warming moment, Ann made a confession as she admitted “they couldn’t get a better person to play me”.
Sheridan burst into tears as Ann revealed: “She (Sheridan) doesn’t know this but I came on set twice and I watched it and it was like watching me.”
