Spurs boss Thomas Frank insisted there was no talk of Eberechi Eze before his team delivered a message of intent at the Etihad.
First-half goals by Brennan Johnson and Joao Palhinha means Frank has started his reign with successive Premier League victories. The Londoners had seen their £67.5millon bid to land Crystal Palace winger Eze hijacked by bitter rivals Arsenal during the week.
And chairman Daniel Levy was targeted by angry travelling fans despite the joy of another away win over Pep Guardiola ’s side.
Frank said: “I think it’s fair to say we’ve had a few questions about the transfer market and why not and if? But it’s very, very easy. We never ever use one word about any player who isn’t at our club.

“It is extremely important that we have a good group of players. We have quality players who I am very pleased with.
“We have brought in two good players to help. Can we improve it? Perfect. If we can’t, then we have very good players - as we showed today.”
Two goals in the space of 10 minutes at the end of the first half turned the contest Tottenham’s way.

Frank said: “I am very delighted. I thought the first 35 minutes were quite even, with City slightly on top. Then we scored a very good goal and the momentum changed.
“In the second half we were very good because this is a very tough place to go. We were very aggressive in our press. I like that method. It’s very offensive.”
