Virgin Island has viewers shocked just moments into the ground-breaking series. aired on Monday night, with some very strong reaction already.
The controversial show take a bespoke intimacy course designed to help them overcome their fears around sex. Professional sexologists Celeste Hirschman and Dr. Danielle Harel lead the group as the virgins take on various exercises that aim to raise their self-esteem throughout experiential sex therapy.
Their most controversial treatment involves the use of a surrogate partner - a professional who can be physically intimate with their client if they are ready to do so.
While the show experts have insisted duty of care for the contestants was paramount on the production, one star was left in tears just moments into the episode.
As the virgins were shown what they would be getting up to on the retreat, Emma got overwhelmed by the graphic nature. She burst into tears as one of the experts was dry humped against a wall.
Speaking to the camera after watching the explicit act, Emma said: "I don't think I was fully ready for that. I walked away feeling very overwhelmed."
She admitted: "I felt quite uncomfortable watching that." Emma opened up on having insecurities about her appearance and confessed: "It's a never-ending cycle, a roundabout that never stops."
The contestant heartbreakingly shared she was branded a "duff" when group up as she was labelled "fat and ugly". Emma said: "I would always believe that I was ugly. I think there is a lot I need to work on."
Experts Celeste and Danielle opened up to the about the series ahead of its launch. They told us: "A surrogate partner therapist works in conjunction with a traditional licensed therapist and then a client.
"The therapist is there so if anything emotional comes up for the client that they have someone to process it with, and the surrogate partner can go step-by-step through erotic experiences."
She added: "Everything from basic touching to getting comfortable with nudity and then all the way through to manual sex, oral sex and even intercourse, depending on what’s needed for the particular client."
Danielle explained that consent was at the forefront of the programme. "During the show, all the coaches, all the practitioners were really mindful about consent," she said.
"We taught them first to say no. We kept checking, tracking their like nervous system and if they're like recoiling like., 'What's happening?'
"So we're constantly aware of making sure that they are comfortable, even though it's not like it was easy, but they're comfortable with the next growing moment."
