The desire for fresh coriander leaves leads to wastage of money and trouble. Have you ever wondered how this magical leaf was preserved for a long time before the refrigerator became a part of our kitchen? So let us know about those old tips and tricks today, with which our grandmothers used to keep coriander green, that too for a long time. Coriander has a high moisture level, so it gets spoiled quickly. The hot season and the air in the house speed up this process. Due to this, the leaves turn yellow or black in a few days. By keeping coriander closed in a polythene bag, its moisture remains inside, due to which it rots quickly. Trick 1: Wash coriander lightly with water and dry it thoroughly. Wrap the leaves in a cotton or muslin cloth and keep them in a basket or container with a lid. Coriander can stay fresh for up to a week if kept away from air. Trick 2: Even today, earthen pots are widely used in villages. Lightly wet the coriander and keep it in an earthen pot. The natural coolness of the clay helps keep it fresh for a long time.

Trick 3: Put washed coriander in a lidded container along with lemon peel. The peel prevents bacterial growth and also helps in retaining the colour and freshness of the leaves. Trick 4: Coriander often comes with roots. Keep the roots covered with lightly wet soil and cloth. In this way, coriander can be kept fresh for a week without keeping the leaves in the fridge. Trick 5: If a refrigerator is not available, wrapping dried coriander in newspaper and keeping it in a dry container works wonders. The newspaper absorbs excess moisture, keeping the leaves fresh for a longer time.
