Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has created history by becoming the longest continuously serving Chief Minister in the state's history. As of now, he has completed 8 years, 4 months, and 10 days in office, surpassing the previous record held by Govind Ballabh Pant, who served for 8 years and 127 days.
A Historic Tenure Begins in 2017Yogi Adityanath was sworn in as the 21st CM of Uttar Pradesh on March 19, 2017. After completing a full five-year term—a first in UP's electoral history—he returned to power in 2022, becoming the first CM to serve consecutive full terms in the state.
Political Rise of a Monk-Turned-LeaderBorn on June 5, 1972, as Ajay Mohan Singh Bisht, Yogi Adityanath became an MP at just 26 and represented Gorakhpur Lok Sabha five times. He is also the Mahant of the Gorakhnath Math, a significant religious and political institution in Eastern UP. He assumed the position after the death of his spiritual mentor Mahant Avaidyanath in 2014.
Consistent Electoral SuccessYogi began his parliamentary journey in 1998, becoming one of the youngest MPs in India. His influence grew over the years, and by the 2017 assembly elections, he emerged as a key campaigner for the BJP. His leadership was instrumental in securing a massive mandate for the party in both 2017 and 2022.
As CM, he has been known for his strong administrative style, firm stance on law and order, and bold political statements, often dominating national headlines.
