A massive earthquake of 8.8 magnitude struck the coast of Russia's Far Eastern Kamchatka Peninsula on Wednesday. This earthquake created a stir in the Pacific region.

This earthquake was so powerful that tsunami warnings were issued in many countries. Alarm bells are ringing on the beaches in areas like America, Japan, New Zealand, Philippines, Ecuador and Hawaii. According to the US Geological Survey (USGS), this is the most powerful earthquake in this region since 1952.

At least six earthquakes were recorded off the coast of Kamchatka throughout the day today, ranging in magnitude from 5.4 to 6.9. However, all of them were less powerful than the 8.8 magnitude quake. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center has warned that waves as high as 3 meters could rise in some coastal areas of Russia and Ecuador.

Trump said – Japan is also in danger

Amid the threat of tsunami, US President Donald Trump posted on Twitter, "Due to the massive earthquake in the Pacific Ocean, a tsunami warning has been issued for those living in Hawaii. Tsunami monitoring is in place for Alaska and the Pacific coast of the United States. Japan is also at risk. Stay strong and stay safe."
