BBC viewers all say same thing about Destination X in exit complaint

A new series of Destination X hit the BBC on Wednesday evening, with Gavin and Stacey star Rob Brydon at the helm. But just minutes in, fans were already complaining as they branded the show "fake" and bashed an early twist - despite others instantly falling in love with the programme.

The new competitive reality show sees the host take 13 players on the mystery journey of a lifetime. The players are taken to undisclosed locations across Europe on a coach with blacked-out windows and have to guess where they are. The aim of the game is for the contestants to locate precisely where they are via challenges, games and clues; all the while being deliberately disorientated and fed red herrings. In the Map Room, players risk elimination as they plot their guesses as to where they are - those who are furthest away are sent home and eliminated from the competition, missing out on the £100,000 cash prize.

The episode began with the contestants gathering in an airport lounge as they all began to mingle straightaway - leading viewers at home to believe that the show wasn't as realistic as they had hoped.

Taking to X/Twitter, one fan complained: " Straight away I call shenanigans. No way British people will talk so quickly to strangers in an airport lounge. #DestinationX.

Another echoed: "Looking forward to #DestinationX but let's face it... This is clearly a fake airport lounge. I ain't talking to nobody at an airport haha," while a third agreed: "Blatantly a fake airport lounge #DestinationX".

Rob soon joined the players in the airport, where he dropped a huge bombshell. He pointed out that there were 13 players in total as he warned: "But only 10 of you will be progressing past these doors".

He then challenged them all to bring him a suitcase that weighed as much as the maximum hand luggage allowance of 10kg. The first six players to complete the task would receive a boarding pass to the departure lounge.

Chaos ensued as the players ran around frantically and began emptying items out of the cases. Once six people completed the task Rob pointed out that it was "very unfair" but there were only four places left. "That means that three of you are going home," he threatened.

The remaining players then had to scout out items with certain passengers' names on. The four players who completed the challenge would join the other six in the competition while three unlucky players were sent packing.

But fans at home thought that it might not be the end of the line for them and shared their theories online. One guessed: "Hate early eliminations in games like this - all the players will have taken time out of their lives to play, seems harsh to boot them day one. Unless there's a twist involving the players removed. #DestinationX"

Another thought: "Let me guess the first 3 out come back next week #DestinationX." Meanwhile one more said: "I bet you the three gone will come back in like ep4 #DestinationX."
