The United Kingdom is facing a "national emergency", anchor insisted in a huge blow to prime minister . On the programme yesterday (June 1), Akua said: "I for one will not stay silent" as almost 1,200 illegal migrants crossed the English Channel in small boats on May 31st.
Nana began her segment by saying: "He promised to smash the gangs. He ditched Rwanda before it even got off the ground. So yesterday was a daily record for illegal boat crossings in 2025. Border force vessels and lifeboats were overloaded rescuing migrants, and were forced to call on fishing boats to assist, and yachts, and kayaks."

Akua continued: "Now we thought the numbers were about 1,000, but turns out it was much more - 1,194, so almost 1,200 people crossed illegally yesterday. And it seems that the French who were there to assist in this latest event simply escorted the boats to the UK, even though apparently they can push them back in shallow water, or, here's the thing, take them back to France instead of to the UK!"
She continued: "This is a national emergency and I for one will not stay silent," before following up in a tweet: "This is a national emergency. Instead of calling a press conference to slate Nigel Farage, Keir Starmer needs to call a press conference to explain to the tax paying British public how he intends to stop the boats."
She followed up: "Smashing the gangs isn't working."
It comes just days after her co-star Lee Harris said Starmer is "finished" after his North West press conference, blasting it a "PR disaster of biblical proportions" which was "catastrophic" for the Labour PM.
In the press conference, including: "On the wider issue of the opposition you are now facing, do you think one of the problems is that Nigel Farage can approximate talking like a human being, whereas you just resort to talking points and dodging questions?" and "Isn't this speech today an admission that you have failed and Nigel Farage understands voters better than you?"
