The much-loved high street store, Game, will be closing five of its branches this summer. The retail giant has begun its closing-down sale ahead of the stores shutting their doors for good. Game will begin closing down the five shops in just a matter of days, with closures planned in August and September.
The high street staple, which has 240 branches across the UK, will be closing down its branch in Basingstoke next week, on August 10. Its store in Southend will also permanently be pulling its shutters down this month. In September, the Chatham branch will close, followed by the shop in the Metrocentre Shopping Centre, Gateshead, on September 7.

The final planned closure will be the branch in the Galleries Shopping Centre in Bristol on September 25.
The stores in Bristol and Gateshead have already reportedly launched a large-scale closing down sale to get rid of any remaining stock in store. Discounts of up to 20% are available.
The new wave of closures follow a number of branches being shut down in the first six months of this year. In June, shoppers in Manchester said goodbye to the store in Trafford Shopping Centre, while locals in Bridgewater saw the closure of their Game store on April 6.
Just last month, another Game branch reportedly closed in the Victoria Centre in Nottingham on July 17.
While the retailer has been shutting many of its stores, Game opened many concessions. For example, a Game concession at the Sports Direct branch inside the shopping centre in Gateshead remains open.
After the retailer was bought by Frasers Group as part of a £52million deal in 2019, the company announced plans to close 40 stores swiftly after, in January 2020.
At the time of being acquired, the retailer had 300 stores - this number stands at around 240 in the UK. This is one of many high street retailers to close the doors of its physical stores, with many other businesses switching to online.
