chief Matt Porter has hinted that complaints about the darts ranking system being "unfair" are being looked at, with the organisation contemplating an overhaul to the Order of Merit. The PDC announced earlier this month that the winner of the World Championship would bank a whopping £1million in ranking prize money.
It sparked complaints from fans, pundits and players alike, with Price suggesting the hefty figure - which is double that of the current £500,000 prize - might end up skewing the world rankings. The Welshman argued a player would only have to win the Worlds and not much else in order to confirm their spot at the top of the PDC Order of Merit for the following 12 months.
While the 2021 world champion did tease he'd happily take the £1m prize if he was crowned victor, Price's complaints appear to have been heard, with Porter telling : "Look, it's obvious that the £1m for the world champion will make them No.1. But that likely happens anyway even like now when you win £500,000 at Alexandra Palace.
"We want to make sure the rankings system is fair and equitable. We sit down with the Players Association every year, and we discuss changes we could make. We will sit down with them in our normal meeting, I'm not saying we will change it and I'm not saying we won't."

One of the suggestions put forward by fans in the wake of the £1m announcement was a switch to a points-based ranking system, similar to the one seen in tennis. In its simplest form, each tournament would be worth a specific number of ranking points, with the value going up or down depending on the event's prestige.
, Price said: "It's only one tournament heavy. As bad as my last year has been, even though I've started well this year, I could go on to win the World Championship and be world number one. They've upped the Worlds [money], but they need to up everything else. Otherwise, they need to change the points. It's not fair if someone wins the Worlds and they are world number one for two years. I will happily have the million. But they need to change the ranking points."
The PDC Order of Merit is currently calculated on a two-year rolling cycle based on how much prize money every player has won during that time. sits at the top of the world rankings as things stand, one place and £600,000 ahead of .
