Horror as police officer stabbed in broad daylight in major UK city

A police officer has been rushed to hospital after being stabbed in the capital this morning. The emergency services rushed to the scene where they found an officer who had been knifed in the hand and arm at an address on Ridley Road, Dalston, at around 10.30am.

The policeman had also fractured his hand during the shocking incident. He was responding to reports of a disturbance when he was injured. The officer was taken to major trauma centre as a priority, at the hospital his injuries were deemed non-life-threatening and non-life-changing.

The officer has since been discharged.

A 62-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of grievous bodily harm and criminal damage. He remains in police custody as of publication.

This morning's shock stabbing took place on Ridley Road, a busy market street that would've been bustling with shoppers at the time.

The London Ambulance Service sent multiple resources to the scene with the first paramedic arriving in less than three minutes.

A spokesperson for the London Ambulance Service said: "We were called at 10.26am today (11 November) to reports of a stabbing on Ridley Road, E8.

"We sent resources to the scene, including ambulance crews, an incident response officer and a paramedic in a fast response car. Our first paramedic arrived in less than three minutes.

"We treated a patient for stab wounds and took them to a major trauma centre as a priority. We assessed another person and discharged them at the scene."
