Jorgen Strand Larsen to Newcastle latest after £77m Nick Woltemade deal agreed

Jorgen Strand Larsen is likely to stay at Wolves after Newcastle agreed a deal to sign Stuttgart striker Nick Woltemade, according to reports. It has been a frustrating summer at St James' Park with the Magpies failing to land many of their preferred targets. They have also been wrapped up in the Alexander Isak saga, which remains up in the air ahead of Monday's deadline.

There was some good news on Thursday, though, with Newcastle set to sign Woltemade after accelerating their interest in the Germany international. They have reportedly agreed a £73million transfer fee with another £4m available in potential add-ons. The striker has already said his goodbyes at Stuttgart and is expected to undergo a medical in England over the coming days.

The news of the agreement came just days after Newcastle had a second bid rejected for Wolves attacker Strand Larsen. They were said to have failed with a £55m proposal, having already seen an opening offer in the region of £50m turned down.

The proposed move is now believed to be dead in the water, given that Woltemade is about to join the Magpies. They are not expected to submit any further bids for Strand Larsen ahead of Monday's deadline, according to talkSPORT.

As a result, the Norwegian forward is anticipated to stay at Molineux until at least January. It is said that he expressed a desire to join Newcastle, but Wolves informed him that it was too late in the window to sanction a sale.

Strand Larsen scored 14 goals in the Premier League last season, helping Wolves to avoid relegation to the Championship. He initially joined them on loan from Celta Vigo but made the move permanent at the start of the summer window.

Woltemade, meanwhile, is expected to complete the formalities of his move to Newcastle in the next 24 hours. He will be tasked with leading the line in the absence of Alexander Isak, who is desperate to join Liverpool and remains out of the picture.

It comes just days after Eddie Howe insisted that Newcastle were making progress in terms of new signings, with the market ramping up ahead of Monday's deadline.

"We're working on incomings [but] I wouldn't say we're close," said Howe before the defeat to Liverpool earlier this week.

"We still have a little bit of time but it'll go quickly. The squad is in a really good place, but we're still looking to replace Callum Wilson. That's the big area we're focusing on.

"Whenever you go through a transfer window, there's always ups and downs. It feels like there's been a lot of downs in this one, but some big positives as well and that shouldn't be forgotten. The players we've signed are very good."
