Tragedy as boy, 4, dies after walking outside hospital

A four-year-old boy has died after being hit by a bus outside a hospital in Kent where he had been visiting his grandmother. The tragedy happened outside Queen Elizabeth, Queen Mother Hospital in Margate at around 4pm on Thursday, Kent Police said.

Zaahir Jan, the youngest of five children, reportedly left the hospital on foot before the collision took place. He was taken back inside the hospital where he was pronounced dead soon after. Kent Police said he was hit by a white single decker bus which was travelling near the entrance to the A&E department.

A GoFundMe was launched by Zaahir's mother to help cover the costs of his funeral.

Azaria Green described her son as a "sweet, funny boy with a cheeky smile that could make anyone's heart full".

Writing on the GoFundMe page, she said: "I didn't even get to tell you how much I love you.

"Please if anyone can help us to make his burial as beautiful as he was please I will be so grateful. Everyone is devastated but that word doesn't feel like enough to explain how we are all feeling."

Zaahir's cousin Kyia, 32, told The Sun that the family is "beyond broken" and that his passing comes days after the death of her mother.

In a tribute, she said: "I can't believe I'm even writing this.

"He was just four-years-old, the youngest of five. His mum and four older siblings along with the family are beyond devastated.

"Not only did I lose my mum six days ago, now but we have now lost one of our babies of the family in the most horrific of ways.

"I have no words what is even happening to my family at this moment in time, it's unbearable."

Investigators from Kent Police's Serious Collision Investigation Unit are urging anyone with relevant information to come forward.

The force are appealing for witnesses of the incident, as well as CCTV and dashcam footage.
