UK weather maps have shown the exact date on which the country is predicted to enjoy temperatures above 20C. An Indian Summer, a warm, calm spell of weather occurring in autumn, is seemingly on its way later this month. WXCharts suggests that Britain will experience highs of 23C on Saturday, September 20, with the mercury highest in the south east, East Anglia, the Midlands, and the Welsh borders. Parts of northern England may also see warm conditions.
The counties that are expected to see temperatures of at least 20C include: Norfolk, Suffolk, Kent, Essex, East Sussex, West Sussex, Surrey, Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Northamptonshire, Buckinghamshire, Berkshire, Surrey, Hampshire, Berkshire, Oxfordshire, Warwickshire, Worcestershire, Gloucestershire, Wiltshire, Dorset, Devon, Somerset, Herefordshire, Shropshire, Staffordshire, Leicestershire, Rutland, Cheshire, Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, Lincolnshire, and parts of East Yorkshire and West Yorkshire. The Met Office forecasts that between Sunday, September 14, and Tuesday, September 23, the UK will experience weather that is "generally unsettled with low pressure dominating much of the period".
Experts add: "This will mean showers or longer spells of rain will affect most of the UK at times, hail and thunder possible.
"Potential for a deeper area of low pressure to run close to or into the UK later in the weekend, bringing more widespread rain and strong winds or gales.
"Further rain, showers and strong winds likely into next week.
"However, later in the period, there may be some spells of drier weather that develop, especially towards the south, with more in the way of sunshine.
"Temperatures will likely be close to average or slightly below overall, but may rise above at times in drier, sunnier spells.
The period between Wednesday, September 24, and Wednesday, October 8, is also set to be "changeable", with areas of low pressure likely, especially towards the north of the UK.
The Met Office adds: "These will bring spells of rain and showers, some of which are likely to be heavy at times with a risk of hail and thunder, and some windy conditions, especially if any deep lows form.
"Some drier, more settled spells are also likely, especially towards the south, perhaps more particularly early in the period when higher pressure may be more dominant.
"Temperatures are likely to be close to or a little above average overall, although chilly nights with some fog patches are possible when and where skies are clear and winds light."
