
National commemorations and events for kicked off yesterday, with a second day of celebrations planned today, marking the historic moment ended in Europe. On Monday, a military procession marched from Parliament Square to Buckingham Palace, the Red Arrows completed their iconic flypast and a recitation of s famous VE Day speech was read out. The King, Queen and Prime Minister were joined by World War 2 veterans on the mall to watch the troops march by, before hosting a tea party.
's outfit drew particular attention, as she wore the same military uniform that her late mother, Queen Elizabeth II, wore for the Buckingham Palace Balcony appearance on VE Day 1945. The 80th anniversary of VE Day will be marked today by the return of 30,000 ceramic poppies to the Tower of London, which the Queen will view. Historic landmarks will also be lit up tonight, which Brits can view on Sky News as helicopters capture the events from above.
