Meghalaya Pineapple Fest 2025 Held in New Delhi

The Meghalaya Pineapple Festival 2025 highlighted the state’s rich agricultural potential, with the Union Government promising strong collaboration and support for expanding exports, improving processing, and empowering farmers and agri-startups.

Union Minister for Agriculture & Farmers Welfare and Rural Development, Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, attended the Meghalaya Pineapple Festival 2025 in New Delhi today, alongside Meghalaya Chief Minister Shri Conrad K. Sangma and key officials. The festival showcased the state’s premium pineapples and other world-class organic produce such as spices, turmeric, ginger, coffee, and mushrooms.

The event began with the signing of MoUs aimed at boosting pineapple promotion and export. A booklet detailing Meghalaya’s agricultural progress was also released by the Union Minister.

Shri Chouhan praised the farmers of Meghalaya for their hard work, noting that the state’s pineapples are renowned for their exceptional taste and quality. He emphasized the Central Government’s commitment to promoting agricultural exports from the North East, calling for private sector involvement and promising full support to the Meghalaya government.

He announced plans to revisit the state with scientists to address farmers’ concerns, particularly regarding the shelf life of produce. He highlighted ongoing ICAR research and the need to establish food processing units in the region. Initiatives like airlifting and railway transport for agricultural goods, along with a roadmap to increase pineapple yield per hectare, are also underway.

Concluding his address, Shri Chouhan urged young entrepreneurs to explore agriculture-based startups and called on citizens to actively support and consume Meghalaya’s top-quality produce. “Our products are among the best in the world,” he remarked, “and we should take pride in embracing and promoting them.”
