Hyderabad: In a first, the Telangana government has received 694 applications for new liquor brands from 92 liquor manufacturing companies as on April 2, the last date for applying.
Of the total 694 applications, 331 were from domestic manufacturers, whereas 273 were from international brands, with 47 new entrants seeking approval for 386 products made of alcohol, and 45 current suppliers applying for 218 new brands.
The deadline for the applications which was March 15, had been extended after liquor manufacturers had sought an extension.
Meanwhile, Telangana government has seen revenues amounting to Rs 34,600 crore through excise tax for the year 2024-25.
In 2023-24, the revenues generated through excise tax was around Rs 33,535 crore.
This was due to the then state government advancing the process of issuing liquor licenses to wine shops and bars by months before the state was to go for elections, when Rs 1,264.50 crore in additional revenues through auction of liquor licenses in 2023-24 was achieved.
