PRAYAGRAJ: Hundreds of Congress workers from the City Congress and Yamunapar committee staged a protest near All Saints Cathedral in Civil Lines on Wednesday, raising slogans against the central government and the Enforcement Directorate (ED), accusing them of misusing their authority.
The protest followed the ED’s chargesheet filed in a special court on April 9, naming Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Suman Dubey, and Congress leader Sam Pitroda in connection with the National Herald case. In response, the Congress party has launched a nationwide protest campaign against the agency.
City Congress President Fuzail Hashmi addressed the gathering, calling the case “politically motivated and unnecessarily prolonged” and expressed full faith in the judiciary. Ashok Patel, District President of the Yamunapar committee, alleged that the BJP has been misusing central agencies such as the ED, Income Tax, and CBI since coming to power, and warned of a strong response from the party.
State General Secretaries Mukund Tiwari and Vivekanand Pathak also claimed that the ED was targeting opposition leaders and democratic institutions at the instruction of the government.
Congress Working Committee member Harikesh Tripathi said that the BJP was engaging in “revenge politics,” and warned that the public would respond “at the right time.”
Heavy police deployment was seen outside the ED office in Civil Lines following the protest.
