Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Police on Friday arrested two individuals, who were wanted in two separate cases, from West Bengal and Assam.
Speaking to reporters on Sunday, Naharlagun SP Mihin Gambo said last Aug multiple written complaints were received at Naharlagun police station, alleging that one Debashish Kar, a jeweller, had been collecting gold ornaments from customers under the pretext of repairing.
Having accumulated a substantial quantity of jewellery, the individual fled Naharlagun and was hiding in different states across the country, changing his locations and mobile numbers frequently, the SP said.
While a case had been registered at Naharlagun police station, under Section 409 of the Indian Penal Code, Kar was finally traced to Kolkata with the help of sustained technical and conventional surveillance, Gambo said.
The 55-year-old was arrested from Habra on Friday, the official added.
In another case, a woman lodged a complaint, alleging that an amount of Rs 4 lakh had been fraudulently withdrawn from her bank account by one Srinu Chekka.
With Naharlagun police station officer-in-charge K Dev investigating the matter, the individual was traced to Guwahati. A police team apprehended the 33-year-old Chekka from Ambari in Guwahati on Friday, the SP said.
Both were brought back to Naharlagun for further investigation
