MUMBAI: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati has announced the launch of its four-year Bachelor of Science (Honours) programme in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence for the 2025–26 academic session.
The programme, offered by the Mehta Family School of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, is designed to equip students with contemporary skills in data science and AI through an industry-aligned curriculum, international exposure, and flexible exit options.
Applications are now open, and eligible candidates are encouraged to apply early.
Prof. Hemant B. Kaushik, Dean of Online Education and Skilling at IIT Guwahati, said, “The application portal for the 2025 batch of our Online BSc (Hons) in Data Science & Artificial Intelligence is now open. This program is a gateway to the future, designed to equip students with the most in-demand skills in the rapidly evolving fields of Data Science and AI. At IIT Guwahati, we believe in making world-class education accessible to all.”
He added that the programme is designed to be flexible, interactive, and affordable, offering students theoretical knowledge alongside practical training. “Whether you are a recent high school graduate or a professional looking to upskill, this program offers an opportunity to learn from renowned IIT faculty and industry experts without geographical constraints,” he said.
The curriculum is delivered in a trimester format, comprising three terms per year. It features a range of courses, from foundational to advanced topics, with 12-week modules that include video lectures and case studies. Currently, over 1,700 students from 21 countries are enrolled in the programme.
Students have access to recorded lectures, tools such as Jupyter Notebook, and supercomputing facilities including PARAM Kamrupa and PARAM Ishan. Optional campus visits and participation in the annual IITG AI Confluence are also part of the programme.
Multiple exit options are available: an Advanced Certificate after the first year, a Diploma after the second year, a B.Sc. degree after the third year, and a B.Sc. (Honours) degree upon completion of the fourth year. Students who exit early may return to resume their studies within a year.
The programme is open to a wide range of learners, including recent school graduates from science and non-science backgrounds, working professionals, entrepreneurs, and those seeking career shifts in AI and Data Science.
Applicants must have scored at least 60% in Class 12 with mathematics as a compulsory subject. Direct admission is offered to candidates eligible through JEE (Advanced), while others must qualify via an online entrance test.
Graduates will be prepared for roles such as Data Scientist, Machine Learning Engineer, and AI Consultant. The curriculum also prepares students for competitive exams like GATE. IIT Guwahati’s Online Internship and Placement Cell provides career support through specialised training, industry workshops, and networking opportunities.
