Police tighten social media watch, 2 held in Hanumangarh

Jaipur: The cyber cell of the state police increased surveillance of social media activity across the state following the terrorist attack in Pahalgam.

On Tuesday, Hanumangarh police arrested two men accused of posting objectionable content that could threaten communal harmony. Similar actions were taken in Barmer, Jodhpur, Jalore and Kota.

Officials said Hanumangarh police's social media monitoring cell, along with district teams, closely tracked online platforms to ensure that no provocative, unethical, or communal posts were circulated.

The goal is to prevent any content that could escalate tensions, especially in the aftermath of the violence in Pahalgam. "The two men, identified as Mukesh Kumar and Naresh Kumar, were found spreading rumours on social media that could potentially disrupt harmony among communities. They were tracked and booked under Sections 170, 126, and 135 of Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita," said a police officer.

Similar incidents were reported from other parts of Rajasthan. In Barmer Monday, police arrested three youths for posting religiously provocative material. In Kota, a young man was arrested and made to delete his objectionable post.
