Jaipur: A division bench of Rajasthan High Court directed the state govt to submit its action plan and road map for filling all vacancies in govt medical colleges and autonomous medical colleges under state govt control. The April 7 directive by the division bench of Chief Justice M M Shrivastava and Justice Anand Sharma was issued while hearing a PIL citing concerns about the insufficient teaching staff at medical colleges.
"The state govt filed an affidavit in this regard on the court's directions, which shows that, as far as private medical colleges are concerned, the vacancies are almost nil. However, regarding govt medical colleges and society-run (autonomous) colleges controlled by state govt, there is a huge vacancy," the court said. It added, "It is indeed in public interest that all faculties in the medical colleges are filled, and quality of teaching is not adversely affected due to lack of teaching staff," the court said in its order uploaded Monday.
Tanveer Ahamad, counsel for petitioner Mahendra Gaur, said, "We filed the petition for judicial intervention and issuance of directions to state govt to ensure that govt-run medical colleges have enough teaching staff. Since many posts are vacant, it adversely impacts quality of medical education in these colleges."
Court granted two weeks to state govt to respond with an action plan and posted the matter after a month.
