RAIPUR: Three Maoists were killed in an encounter that broke out between security forces and Maoists in forests of insurgency-hit Bijapur district of Bastar division in Chhattisgarh on Saturday.
Police officials indicated that Maoists have suffered losses as the gun-battle continues.
Based on specific inputs about the presence of Maoists in forests alongside the Indravati tiger reserve, a team of troops had ventured out into the forest launching an anti-Maoist operation.
The encounter broke out around 9 in the morning and intermittent firing from both sides went on till noon.
While simultaneous search is also underway, police said that the Maoists have suffered loss of lives and many were injured.
Security forces have recovered bodies of two cadres and further details are awaited.
