AAP criticises Chhattisgarh govt over unemployment

RAIPUR: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national organisation secretary and Rajya Sabha MP, Dr. Sandeep Pathak, on Saturday heavily criticised the BJP government in Chhattisgarh for its failure to tackle the state's rising unemployment and numerous vacancies within government departments.

Pathak, during a press conference at Raipur Press Club, highlighted that over 1.7 million people are currently unemployed in Chhattisgarh, with thousands of posts lying vacant in the education and healthcare sectors. He accused the government of poor governance, neglecting local job seekers, and implementing schemes that produce no tangible results. Furthermore, he alleged scams within the Chhattisgarh Public Service Commission (PSC) and demanded the government publish a clear roadmap for employment generation.

"The previous Congress government operated like a private limited company, leading the public to place their trust in the BJP with a massive mandate. However, this government has failed to meet the people's expectations," Pathak stated. "Nobody seems to know who is running the government; it appears to be running on divine intervention. They haven't even been able to fill two ministerial positions yet."

Pathak emphasized the critical role of employment in a state or nation's prosperity. He accused the previous government of manipulating unemployment figures, revealing that the current unemployment count stands at 1,692,824. In the education sector, he pointed out 63,000 vacant positions, 5,500 schools without teachers, and critical teacher shortages in Raipur schools. He also highlighted the 11-year delay in releasing the teacher seniority list while extending party’s support to the terminated B Ed assistant teachers.

"Up to class 8, students are passed with grace marks, while principals are pressured to achieve 90% results from class 9 onwards. Education has become a joke in the state," he alleged.

The AAP leader also raised concerns over 642 vacant assistant professor positions in 10 medical colleges, the plight of six lakh irregular employees lacking EPF benefits, and widespread vacancies across government departments. He also spoke up for the Home Guards and B.Ed/D.Ed-qualified individuals who were declared unfit after being employed.

Pathak called on the state government to disclose the number of jobs created in the past 18 months, the percentage allocated to locals, and the number given to outsiders. He argued that despite factories and skill development schemes in Bastar, locals are not securing employment.

He further alleged that mining is the primary "employment" activity, benefiting only the government and industrialists. Pathak also alleged corruption in the PSC.

"Until unemployment is resolved, Chhattisgarh's development is impossible. The people have trusted AAP, and we are committed to providing them with employment opportunities," Pathak affirmed. He concluded by reiterating that education and healthcare remain AAP's core focus areas.
