Pets have a magical way of making every day a special celebration, National Pet Day observed on April 11 every year, brings in an extra opportunity when pet owners can show a little more appreciation for them. Actress Devoleena Bhattacharjee who became a household name after playing Gopi Modi in long-running popular show Saath Nibhaana Saathiya, talks about being a mother to a pet dog, whom she calls Angel Bhattacharjee.
Expressing her happiness to have Angel in her life, she said, "Love knows no bounds regardless of species. It doesn’t matter if you’re a parent to a child or an alloparent to a pet, the type of love you feel for them is so pure and unconditional that it’s almost identical. To me, my Angel is like my children. I love her the same as I do my son Joy."
She continued, "Mothers are natural caregivers, and in their eyes, a child and a furry creature hold the same place in their hearts. They both need to be taken care of, loved, fed, and groomed, and they have their own personality traits and emotions. They are part of a family as any member is. They are great companions, they depend on their family, and most importantly — they are extremely intelligent."
Talking ahead, she highlighted how people need to be responsible before making a decision to bring home a pet.
She shared, "Having a pet is a blessing. But the blessings should be for the pets as well. It's a great responsibility. Being a pet owner is a lifelong commitment. As a responsible pet owner, you must be prepared to provide appropriate care throughout the animal’s lifetime. So, one should have a pet if they are in a position to take care of them just like their children. Or else avoid adopting. The decision to keep a pet should never be taken lightly, and abandoning your pet should never be an option."
Devoleena was last seen in the role of Goddess Chhathi Maiyya in Chhathi Maiyya Ki Bitiya, but in October 2024, she quit the show due to her pregnancy. She also featured in Dil Diyaan Gallaan as Disha. She also earned immense popularity through her participation in the reality TV show Bigg Boss.
She married Shanwaz Shaikh on 14 December 2022. The couple welcomed their first child, a boy, on 18 December 2024.
