Melanie Hamrick has finally confirmed that she and Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger are engaged — and it turns out they’ve been engaged for quite some time.
In a recent interview with Paris Match published on April 9, the former ballerina revealed that the engagement actually happened “two or three years ago.”
According to Hamrick, 37, while the couple is engaged, getting married isn’t something they’re rushing into. She said that she and Jagger, 81, are already happy with the life they’ve built together and that she wouldn’t want to risk changing anything. She added, “Maybe one day we’ll marry, maybe not. We are so happy in our current life that I would be too afraid to change anything.”
When asked about what makes their relationship work, Hamrick explained that they focus on supporting each other and making sure everyone feels happy. That, she said, is what matters most to her.
Hamrick had previously dodged questions about a large diamond ring she wore during a promotional event for her debut novel First Position in 2023. At the time, she told People magazine that yes, the ring was from Mick, and yes, she wore it on that finger — but she jokingly referred to it as a “promise ring,” calling the couple “immature” in a fun way.
The two first met in Tokyo back in February 2014. Hamrick, who was on tour with the American Ballet Theatre, met Jagger backstage at a Rolling Stones concert. She said there was a bit of a spark, but it wasn’t some big dramatic moment. In fact, they didn’t even exchange phone numbers at the time. Hamrick also mentioned that while she was single then, Jagger wasn’t.
Their relationship officially began four months later when Jagger invited her to join him in Zurich. In 2016, they welcomed their son, Deveraux Octavian Basil. Hamrick once told The New York Times that Deveraux already shows strong signs of inheriting his parents’ artistic talents. She shared that he loves dancing, plays the ukulele, and makes up songs, and she hopes he’ll eventually try tap dancing.
In addition to their personal relationship, Hamrick and Jagger worked together professionally in 2019 on a ballet called Porte Rouge. The project combined Hamrick’s choreography with music from the Rolling Stones. She said it was fun to collaborate with Jagger, though she prefers to keep their careers separate most of the time. Working separately, she explained, helps maintain balance and allows for outside perspectives.
Melanie Hamrick and Mick Jagger’s relationship continues to grow, even without a wedding date on the calendar.
