'When actors become stars and are in that position, they have to protect themselves'

Once an actor becomes a star, is it different to work with them? Director Philip Noyce says, "There is a difference. There's more baggage. Because when you're at the top, you become defensive of that position. When you're going up, you'll try anything."

Sharing an example of how during the filming of Clear and Present Danger with Harrison Ford, he explained to him that the front shot will work. He says,"He was right. He was protecting himself and his relationship with his audience, but he was doing it from a valid point of view. He was teaching me - quietly, by the way."

Philip adds, "When actors become stars and are in that position, they have to protect themselves. Naturally, they have to. I saw Denzel in an interview, and he was telling everyone that he's going to make five more films, but only with the best directors. That’s what actors are looking for - successful directors with a continuity of success."

Talking about how he doesn’t carry any baggage, Philip says, "I keep reinventing. I have a split personality - I’m both Australian and American. I can be an Australian humanist. I can be an American entertainer. I want to keep yelling, 'Action!"
