Alia Bhatt has become one of Bollywood’s biggest stars today, and her journey to the top has been filled with bold choices and strong performances. She made her debut in the glitzy film ‘Student of the Year’. Since then, she has stunned audiences with emotional roles in films like ‘Highway’, ‘Udta Punjab’, among many others.
One of her most unforgettable roles came in 2022 when she starred in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’. Playing the strong-willed brothel madam from Kamathipura, Alia delivered a powerful performance.
‘Chaar foot ki Amitabh Bachchan’
In an interview with Anupama Chopra, the actress talked about the surprising reaction she got for her role as Gangubai. A clip from that chat shared on Reddit, shows her recalling how people called her Amitabh Bachchan in Gangubai. "They say 'chaar foot ki Amitabh Bachchan hai', but that's a different thing,” she said with a laugh.
Heroism isn’t just for men
Alia went on to speak about how strong writing and the spirit of a character are more important than their gender. She explained that audiences connect with powerful characters, no matter who plays them. “You are talking about larger than life heroism, you can package it in woman, a transgender character like Vijay Raaz, a man… It's the spirit. People respond at the end of the day to the writing. You write a woman like that, you will get whistles,” she said.
“So larger than life heroism, a heroic nature should not leave the narrative of the film. Because that's what we love. That's epic.”

Netizens trolled her
While many praised Alia’s thoughts and performance, not everyone was on board with the Bachchan comparison. Some users had mixed reactions saying, “The delusion to think she’s an Amitabh Bachchan…”
Some joked that the comparison may have actually come from her husband, actor Ranbir Kapoor. One user wrote, “It is RK who called her Amitabh Bachchan once. And why should anyone take seriously what he has to say about her? She needs to take several seats.” Another agreed, “Exactly. It was only RK, and Madam thinks it’s the universal truth.”
Alia Bhatt’s upcoming films
Alia isn’t slowing down anytime soon. She is now stepping into action with ‘Alpha’, a film set in Yash Raj Films’ spy universe. The movie stars Sharvari Wagh as well and promises to bring a new female hero into the world of big spy thrillers. She’s also reuniting with director Sanjay Leela Bhansali for ‘Love & War’, which stars Ranbir Kapoor and Vicky Kaushal.
