Prominent MLB star Dave Stewart not only looked back on the pathbreaking contributions made by the legendary icon Jackie Robinson but also brought out the real picture of the way Black officials were seen during that time. According to an article by USA Sports’ MLB columnist Bob Nightengale , Stewart clearly mentioned the actual misbehavior with the Black managers, athletes, and officials back then. The former Athletics’ star mentioned

“These owners have always had the right to do what they want to. They just aren’t in the mood to hire Black males in high decision-making positions.”

Stewart further added-

“I’m not sure how this could make things any worse. The numbers are pretty low already, bro."

During the spring season back in March 2025, MLB commissioner Rob Manfred even spoke about the diversity in the sport and how it can lead to a great ecosystem to nurture talented athletes under one roof. His statement mentioned

“Our values, particularly our values on diversity, remain unchanged, but another value that is pretty important to us is we always try to comply with what the law is.”

Manfred further elaborated-

“There seems to be an evolution going on here. We’re following that very carefully. Obviously, when things get a little more settled, we’ll examine each of our programs and make sure that while the values remain the same that we’re also consistent with what the law requires.”

Jackie Robinson’s groundbreaking efforts in the integration of the sport and civil rights not only paved the path for African athletes in the international game circuit but also put baseball on the world map.
