Will Rangers finally use Skip Schumaker's managerial skills in 2026? Signs say otherwise

Send Push
When the Texas Rangers hired Skip Schumaker , everyone expected him to be the next Rangers’ manager. But, with Bruce Bochy still holding the managerial role, it seems difficult for Skip to make the move.

Moreover, the Texas Rangers have been shaping up as a strong contender in the MLB 2025, thanks to Bochy. Does this mean Schumaker might remain stuck at the front office of the Rangers?
Skip Schumaker as the potential manager candidate for Texas RangersSkip Schumaker joined the Texas Rangers on November 5, 2024, as a senior advisor to the Rangers’ President, Chris Young. Schumaker has been performing brilliantly as a senior advisor, but his main forte remains as manager.

Before joining the Rangers, Skip managed the Miami Marlins for a year (2023-2024), and even won the National League Manager of the Year in 2023, for his managerial skills and contribution. If he gets promoted as the Texas Rangers manager, chances of him bringing out the best in the team are high. He already has experience as a manager, has worked with various MLB teams, and was himself a baseball player.

He was the second baseman for the St. Louis Cardinals, has played in 11 MLB seasons, and won several accolades during his time. Moreover, he has sound knowledge of the game, which is clearly reflected in his managerial skills. If Bruce Bochy finally decides to retire, Schumaker will be the ideal manager candidate for Texas.
Skip Schumaker becomes Team USA’s coach for WBC 2026Though Texas might think of promoting Skip to the manager role, it is still doubtful till Bochy is around. Ken Rosenthal reported on the scenario saying,

“Now working as a senior adviser to Texas Rangers president of baseball operations Chris Young, Schumaker would be the logical successor to Rangers manager Bruce Bochy. But if Bochy, who turns 70 on Wednesday, wants to manage beyond this season, Schumaker might prefer to accept an immediate opening rather than stay off the field another year.”

However, things seem to be working out in Skip’s favor, as the former Cardinals baseman is going to be a part of Team USA for the World Baseball Classic 2026 season, as the bench coach.

He will be joined by Andy Pettitte as the pitching coach, and Matt Holiday as the hitting coach, with whom Skip had shared the field when he was part of the Cardinals.

Though Skip’s situation on becoming the Texas’ manager is uncertain, he will still be seen as the coach of Team USA, which will add another feather to his cap.
