NEW DELHI: Comedian and actor Kapil Sharma ’s café in Surrey has reportedly come under gunfire for the second time in less than a month, with a viral social media post allegedly claiming responsibility on behalf of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang , according to local media report.
The latest shooting reportedly took place early Thursday morning at Kap’s Café, located at the intersection of 85 Avenue and Scott Road. While the Surrey Police Service (SPS) has yet to release official details, images circulated online show shattered windows and multiple bullet holes at the popular café.
A widely shared post, allegedly from gangster Goldy Dhillon, claimed responsibility for the attack in the name of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. The message, written in Hindi, read, “Jai Shri Ram... aaj jo Kapil Sharma ke Kap's Cafe, Surrey mein firing hui hai, iski zimmedari Goldy Dhillon te Lawrence Bishnoi gang leti hai... next karwai jald hi Mumbai mein karenge." ("Goldy Dhillon and Lawrence Bishnoi gang take responsibility for today's firing at Kap’s Café in Surrey. The next action will soon take place in Mumbai.")
However, this claim has not been independently verified, and Surrey Police have not confirmed any gang involvement in the incident so far. Authorities say the investigation is in its early stages, and further details are awaited.
Previous attack in July
This incident mirrors a previous shooting in July, just days after Kap’s Café first opened to the public. On that occasion, multiple gunshots were fired at around 1:50 am, with some staff members present inside the café at the time.
No injuries were reported, though at least 10 bullet holes were seen in the windows and walls of the establishment.
The café is located in a mixed-use building, with retail units at ground level and residential apartments above. At the time, officers had cordoned off the Newton-area site while collecting evidence, as children played nearby at a local daycare, highlighting the incident’s proximity to public and family spaces.
Police probe ongoing
In a previous statement reported by the Vancouver Sun, Staff Sgt. Lindsey Houghton confirmed that police were investigating links to other incidents, including reports that Khalistani separatists may have claimed responsibility in Indian media. However, no suspect had been identified, and the motive remained unclear.
“Connections to other incidents and potential motives are being examined,” said SPS in an official statement.
Houghton added that officers were reviewing CCTV footage and speaking with witnesses to piece together what occurred.
