MAGA supporters finally put their feet down and revolted against the AI image of President Donald Trump as the pope. A week after attending the funeral of Pope Francis who died on April 21, the president shared the photo, but the official X account of the White House also shared it, leading to the stir. People who call themselves MAGA supporters condemned the stretch to which Donald Trump has been taking things lightly.
"This is not funny and should be taken down immediately. God will NOT be mocked. Yes, I’m MAGA," one wrote.
"Please MAGA, explain to me how this "man of faith" isn't making a complete mockery of the pious. And the shame associated with the FUCKING WHITE HOUSE account re-tweeting this is just beyond the pale," another wrote.
"I am 100% positive that President Trump did not approve nor authorize this post. Whoever did it is intentionally undermining him with hopes to shatter his support base and discredit him," a third user wrote as several social media users contemplated who runs the White House X account.
Is Donald Trump a Catholic?
Donald Trump does not identify as a Catholic and calls himself a non-denominational Christian. Earlier, he identified as a mainline Protestant but in a 2020 interview, he said there has been a shift in his religious identity. His wife, First Lady Melania Trump is a Catholic.
When Trump said he'd like to be pope
When Trump was asked whether he would like to be the next pope, he said in a tongue-in-cheek manner, “I’d like to be pope. That would be my No. 1 choice." He then added, more seriously, “No, I don’t know, I have no preference. I must say we have a cardinal that happens to be out of a place called New York who is very good. So we’ll see what happens.” Trump was referring to Cardinal Timothy Dolan, Archbishop of New York, whom the president on May 1 named to serve on the White House’s newly created Religious Liberty Commission. At a Rose Garden event Thursday, Trump remarked about the commission, “They say separation between church and state… I said, ‘All right, let’s forget about that for one time.’”
