Delhi EV 2.0 Policy Announced: Petrol & Diesel Auto Ban, Massive EV Subsidies Unveiled

April 16, 2025-In a landmark move to curb pollution and promote sustainable mobility, the Delhi Government has officially announced its Electric Vehicle Policy 2.0. The new policy, unveiled by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on April 15, introduces strict restrictions on petrol, diesel, and CNG vehicles, while offering massive incentives to accelerate the shift to electric vehicles (EVs) across the capital.

Delhi’s Electric Revolution: Key Highlights of EV 2.0

The EV 2.0 policy is a bold push to make Delhi a pollution-free city by drastically cutting emissions from fossil-fuel vehicles and making electric mobility mainstream.

Petrol, Diesel & CNG Auto Ban from August 15, 2025

• New registration of petrol, diesel, and CNG-powered three-wheelers will be banned starting August 15, 2025.

• CNG autos older than 10 years must be converted to electric.

• Residents owning two fossil-fuel cars will only be allowed to register an EV as their third vehicle.

Government Fleet Goes Fully Electric by 2027

To lead by example, the policy mandates that all vehicles owned by:

• Delhi Municipal Corporation (MCD)

• New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC)

• Delhi Jal Board (DJB)
  must be converted to electric by December 2027.

Charging Station Every 5 Kilometers

Delhi is set to become India’s most EV-friendly city, with:

• A target of 13,200 public charging points

• A charging station or battery swap point every 5 km

• Expansion from the current 1,919 charging stations, 2,452 charging points, and 232 battery swapping centers

Unmatched Subsidies on EV Purchases

To boost adoption, the government has rolled out generous financial incentives:

Two-Wheelers

• Women buyers: Up to ₹36,000 subsidy (₹12,000/kWh) for the first 10,000 EVs

• General buyers: Up to ₹30,000 subsidy (₹10,000/kWh) available until 2030

Electric Autos (L5M)

• Subsidy of up to ₹45,000

Four-Wheeler Commercial EVs

• Subsidy of ₹75,000

Electric Cars (Private)

• Subsidy up to ₹1.5 lakh, for vehicles priced under ₹20 lakh

Additional Scrap Benefit

• ₹10,000 extra for scrapping a petrol/diesel two-wheeler less than 12 years old

Ambitious EV Targets for the Capital

The EV 2.0 policy sets bold benchmarks:

• 95% of all new vehicle registrations to be electric by 2027

• 98% electrification target by 2030
