Jharkhand Sees 10-Degree Temperature Drop Amid Weather Shift; Yellow and Orange Alerts Issued

Ranchi, Jamshedpur, and Other Cities Experience Significant Cooling

Ranchi, April 28 — Jharkhand has witnessed a dramatic shift in weather, with temperatures dropping by up to 10 degrees Celsius across several districts. Triggered by the effects of Kalbaisakhi (seasonal thunderstorms), the sudden temperature decline has brought unexpected chill, offering relief from the recent heatwave.

Steep Temperature Drops Across Major Cities

The capital city, Ranchi, recorded a notable 10-degree Celsius fall in temperature. Other districts also experienced significant drops: Jamshedpur reported a 10-degree decline, Daltonganj observed a 7-degree fall, Bokaro saw a 3-degree decrease, and Chaibasa witnessed a 10-degree reduction.

Despite the cooling trend, clear skies returned to Ranchi and surrounding regions on Monday, causing temperatures to rise once again. Ranchi recorded a maximum temperature of 35 degrees Celsius, according to the latest weather updates.

IMD Issues Yellow and Orange Alerts

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast the possibility of thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds with speeds between 40-50 km/h across Jharkhand until May 1, 2025. Consequently, a yellow alert has been issued for the state.

Additionally, for Monday, the IMD has announced an orange alert for several regions, warning of potentially severe weather conditions. Residents are advised to stay indoors during adverse weather and follow official safety guidelines.

Meteorologists suggest that the abrupt weather change is typical during the pre-monsoon period. However, the combination of heavy winds, thunderstorms, and fluctuating temperatures could impact daily activities and transportation.
